Bottle corks
Bottle stoppers, also known as wine corks, are one of the most popular and traditional ways to close wine bottles. Here is some information about bottle stoppers:
Material: Bottle stoppers are usually made from the bark of the cork oak (Quercus suber). This type of cork is extremely flexible, which allows it to effectively seal bottles and prevent the ingress of air.
Wine sealing: Bottle stoppers are the traditional way of closing wine bottles. When the cork is driven into the neck of the bottle, the flexibility of the cork allows it to blend into the neck, creating a tight seal.
Wine protection: Bottle stoppers protect wine from oxidation and external influences such as light and air. Thanks to this, the wine can mature and retain its taste and aroma for a longer time.
Effect on wine: The choice of cork can affect the wine. Natural corks are more flexible and allow minimal air exchange, allowing the wine to breathe and develop gently. On the other hand, synthetic corks or aluminum stoppers may provide a tighter seal but do not allow the wine to undergo the same micro-oxygenation.
Reseal stoppers: Some wine bottles have re-seal stoppers. They are popular for wine that is to be consumed within days or weeks of opening the bottle. Corks of this type often have additional seals that provide additional protection against oxidation.
It is worth noting that recently other lock solutions have also appeared on the market wine bottles, such as wine stoppers made of plastic or screw stoppers. The choice of stopper type depends on the winemaker's preference and how the wine is intended to be stored and consumed.
